What is Wagering Requirements

What is wagering? In other words, Wager is a bet or stake, and that is the money you spend on gambling. You can bet on anything. You make a bet on the outcome of the spin of the slot machine; on the roulette table, you ben on the outcome of the roulette wheel.

Wagering requirements can be confusing, particularly for new online casino players. I say online casino players because land-based casinos don’t give out bonuses for players who roam into a casino the first time or any number of times. Online casinos invented the welcome bonus as an incentive for new players to get to know the games and casinos.

The wagering requirement is the casinos’ self-defense against bonus abusers who would be inclined to withdraw the free money immediately after being credited to the player’s account and without playing on any games.

The casino requires the player to place a certain amount of wagers before cashing out with any bonus. This process is called a wagering or playthrough requirement. Rarely, rollover requirements.

The definition of the wagering requirements, a.k.a. the playthrough requirement or rollover requirement, is the number of times the player must bet the combined deposit and bonus amount before any winnings resulting from the bonus becoming eligible for withdrawal.

For example, a 30x playthrough means that when you deposit your $100 and get a 100% welcome bonus on top of it, you have $200 to play with.

Now you have to wager 30x ($100+$100) = $6000 before requesting a withdrawal of winnings.

Are all games equally qualify towards wagering requirements?

Not exactly.

It is different at each casino. Slots qualify 100%.

Blackjack, Roulette, Craps, and Baccarat are usually excluded from qualifying. That means you must not play these games with the bonus money.

Always read the Terms and Conditions attached to the promotions and bonuses, including the fine print!

What is the reason why the casinos require minimum wagering of the free money they give to players?

The wagering requirement is a process to protect the casinos from ripoff by fraudulent players.

In other words, it is necessary to protect the financial interests of casinos.

Imagine what would happen without it:

For example, the savvy players would deposit their $100 and get another $100 from the casino on top of their deposit. Then they would withdraw $200 back to their bank account, instantly making 100% profit on their investment without any risk. This a surefire loss for the casino, and it makes sense.

You don’t have to be the sharpest knife in the drawer to see that it would be the most exceptional investment opportunity of a lifetime. But unfortunately, that website would go bankrupt in a matter of days. Therefore, players must meet the defined conditions set out in the bonus terms before allowing them to withdraw any winnings resulting from the promotions.
